Scheduling

Dr. Emmett is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. We will schedule your appointment as promptly as possible. If you have pain or an emergency situation, every attempt will be made to see you that day.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 410-494-8687.

  • Do I need to bring anything to my appointment with Dr. Emmett?

You will need x-rays that your General Dentist has taken. This will eliminate us from taking films and charging you for another film. Also you will need to find out, by calling your insurance carrier, if a referral is needed from your primary care physician.
  • How do I prepare for anesthesia?

For Intravenous Sedation or Nitrous Oxide Sedation, a patient must have nothing by mouth for 6 to 8 hours prior to the procedure. A driver is also necessary to accompany the patient home. The driver must be present in Dr. Emmett’s office prior to and during the procedure. No specific preparations are necessary for a patient undergoing local anesthesia.
  • Should I take my normal medications prior to my procedure with Dr. Emmett?

Medications are prescribed by your physician to maintain a normal physiologic well being. Prescribed medications should almost always be taken prior to your visit. One exception to this rule are anticoagulants. Medications such as Plavix, Coumadin or Aspirin used to “thin the blood” should be discontinued prior to your procedure with Dr. Emmett. The amount of time necessary with respect to stopping this medication varies. We ask that you contact Dr. Emmett or your physician prior to your visit to determine the length of time you should stop your “blood thinner” prior to the visit.
  • Will Dr. Emmett be running on time for my appointment?

Dr. Emmett tries his best to stay on time throughout the day. Unfortunately Oral Surgery is a complex and technically specific specialty. Dr. Emmett takes his time to provide excellent treatment to each and every patient. A patients’ surgery is not rushed simply to stay on time. You are encouraged to call ahead the day of your procedure or consultation in order to adjust your appointments and avoid an extended wait prior to being seen.
