Failing Root Canals

Sometimes a tooth with a previous root canal continues to be infected. Although an implant could be placed after the removal of the tooth, Dr. Emmett recommends attempting to save any tooth not diagnosed as "hopeless". A procedure known as an Apicoectomy with a Retrograde filling is performed to remove the infection from the bone. Because leakage of a root canal filling is the usual cause of a failed root canal, the root tip is then sealed to prevent leakage.
